The MRV Chapter of the AAPM holds at least one meeting annually. Meetings are a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, learn about trends in the field of Medical Physics, and interact with vendors.

Patient Communication for Medical Physicists

Workshop Details
The MRV AAPM Fall Workshop will focus on Patient Communication for Medical Physicists and will be held on November 12th, 2021. The workshop will be useful for both therapeutic and diagnostic physicists to attend! This meeting has applied to CAMPEP for approval of 6.25 MPCEC hours.
This will be an interactive virtual workshop utilizing lectures, discussion, hands-on exercises, and simulated patient interactions to with the goal of:
1. Learning about practical clinical communication strategies,
2. Learning how to use communication strategies to develop professional relationships with patients,
3. Practicing using clinical communication strategies in realistic clinical scenarios.
The workshop will be lead by Drs. Todd Atwood and Derek Brown who are experts in physics-patient communication and have established a physics patient care initiative at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). A Phase II clinical trail conducted at UCSD evaluating the use of physicist-patient consults prior to CT simulations and first treatment appointments has shown that they consults helped reduce patient anxiety, increase patient technical satisfaction, and increased overall patient satisfaction. Drs. Atwood and Brown have already hosted several Patient Commination Workshops designed to help train other medical physicists, residents, and students on how to effectively communicate with patients.

Chapter Business Meeting
The business meeting will be held at the end on of the workshop at 5:30pm CST on November 12th. We will discuss old and new business including planning for the spring meeting. There will also be reports from the board rep and secretary/treasurer.
Registration
The registration fee will be $100 for MRV AAPM full members/non-members. The MRV-AAPM will be fully covering the registration fee for all students and residents! However, all students and residents will still need to register using the link below to confirm their attendance.

We will be submitting for 6.25 MPCEC continuing education credits. After the meeting, the required forms will be posted here which will then need to be emailed to the mrvaapm@gmail.com in order to receive your credits.
